Believe It Or Not, It's More Important To Clean Your Car Than Your House!

10/20/2025

Picture
Here's a secret nobody talks about: Cleaning your car regularly is more important than cleaning your house. Think about it. Most drivers get in their car multiple times a day, sitting in a much tinier space than their home, while closer to the contaminants building up in the interior.

You don't always know the contaminants are there, but they're a danger to your health.

Your Vehicle Is an Extension of Your Home.
For many people, their car is a second home. A lot occurs in your car, from everyday, mundane events to sentimental moments. Schmicko describes a vehicle well: “It's where you listen to podcasts, eat quick meals, and sometimes have heart-to-heart conversations.”

Of course, you want a polished environment for these moments, but it isn't just about aesthetics. Keeping a clean car is a social responsibility. A clean car reflects proper health and hygiene and contributes to a stress-free drive.

Eliminate Contaminants, Safety Hazards, and Odor.
Unfortunately, there are many health contaminants in an unclean vehicle to worry about.
  • You must clean and vacuum regularly to reduce allergens, like dust and pollen. They're particularly harmful to those with asthma.
  • Food spillage, moisture, and other elements can lead to mold and bacteria growth, another asthma trigger, and unpleasant smells.
  • Simply by doing its job, the cabin air filter will get clogged and dirty. Unfortunately, running a dirty filter can damage your lungs. So, if the air from the vent smells weird, it's time to change it; otherwise, change it at least once annually.
  • Many drivers don't know about the pests, like fleas and mites, that are lurking in their car. They're difficult to eradicate without steam and special cleaning chemicals.
  • Clean windows are essential for visibility when driving. A dirty interior can lead to dangerous, fogged-up windows.
  • Clutter and mess may distract the driver.

The Fresher the Interior, the Higher the Value
Let's go over the benefits of receiving a vehicle detail:
  • A clean, shiny interior increases the resale value of the car and makes it easier to sell. When it comes to preserving looks and value, maintenance is key. We recommend establishing a proper maintenance schedule with interior details every three to six months.
  • An interior detail is an opportunity to protect your upholstery from dust, dirt, germs and fading from UV light.
  • Orozcos Auto Detailing states that “Many auto detailers have access to the latest technology for removing pollen, smoke, and other contaminants from your car's air circulation system.”

Do the hygienic thing, and schedule an interior detail today. Garza Detailing services the West Michigan Lakeshore. So, call us at 616-836-7465 or fill out our detailing form for a quote!

Regularly Taking Your Vehicle Through the Car Wash?

do this instead to preserve its life.

What's the right car wash for you?
While other car washes pose risks that can damage your car over time, professional detailing is the safest and most effective way to restore and preserve the original condition of your vehicle. Here's why we don't recommend drive-through car washes.

The Risks and Cons of Various Kinds of Car Washes
Outside of professional detailing, car washes can do more harm than good to your vehicle. Each time you go, you could be adding more damage, damage you may not even be aware of yet. Let’s examine the risks associated with drive-thru, touchless, soft-touch, and self-serve car washes.

Drive-Thru Car Washes
  • Automatic car washes use recycled water, dirty bristles, and harsh mechanics that cause abrasive substances to be sprayed at your vehicle. You can’t always see the microabrasions the car wash adds to your vehicle, but you can see paint scratches or dents in the protective clear coat. Without a clear coat, your paint can eventually chip, crack, and corrode.
  • If your car is misaligned on the conveyor belts, they can pull your tires and steering out of alignment. Furthermore, if the conveyor belts themselves are misaligned or moving at slightly different speeds, conflict will likely occur.
  • If your car is off-center or your mirrors are loose, you may lose your mirrors!
  • Drive-thru car washes often fail to dry your vehicle correctly, which can result in hard water stains all over its surface. That’s because when water evaporates quickly from your car, it leaves calcium and magnesium carbonates behind. Furthermore, the recycled water, mixed with dirt and salt from other vehicles, can be corrosive and cause permanent damage if you don’t immediately remove water stains.
  • Automatic car washes pose a risk to almost any exterior surface, including the windshield wipers, tire pressure sensors, valve stems, and antennas.
  • Some conveyor belts function by grabbing your tires and guiding them forward. This process can create a metal-on-metal connection, which could quickly cause rim damage to those without rim guards.
  • Even though it’s an essential step, automatic car washes don’t clean the interior.
  • Dirty bristles and recycled water only make your car dirtier. To make matters worse, the areas that need the most care, which happen to be the hardest areas to reach, don’t get touched in a drive-thru car wash.

Touchless Car Washes
  • The chemical cleaners involved in a touchless car wash are generally very harsh to make up for the lack of abrasion.
  • Just like a standard automatic car wash, a touchless car wash may not properly dry your vehicle, which could result in water stains.
  • A touchless car wash may not be able to thoroughly remove tough dirt, grease, and inorganic contaminants.
  • The touchless car wash may not reach cracks, crevices, and hard-to-reach areas.
  • The harsher chemicals may damage some paint finishes.

Soft-touch Car Washes
  • Soft-touch car washes may apply cloth strips still too forcefully, which can cause damage to mirrors, antennas, molding, and loose parts. Furthermore, the cloth strips may scratch dirt and debris into the vehicle’s surface.
  • If the cloth strips don’t receive diligent maintenance, they won’t be able to clean properly, but they can cause damage.

Self-Serve Car Washes
  • People share communal brushes in self-serve car washes, and when the brushes are dirty, they rub dirt, rocks, and debris into the paint, leaving minor scratches and swirl marks. These scratches build up on the paint over time, causing a dull and blurry appearance. Eventually, you may need to make expensive repairs.
  • The constant friction from the brushes could wear down your clear coat, eventually leading to it failing.

13 Ways Detailing Is the Safest Way to Care for Your Car
Unlike the car wash, professional detailing cleans EVERY part of the car. It’s the best investment for retaining the lifespan and fresh appearance of your vehicle. It’s a lot safer, too!
  1. Daily exposure to dirt, pollution, and UV rays can dull your car’s paintwork over time. Fortunately, detailers thoroughly remove surface contaminants, polish minor imperfections, and apply ceramic coating or wax to the original look of your car. They restore the paint and leave a mirror-like finish.
  2. The car wash often overlooks door jambs, emblems, and under the hood. Detailers use precision tools to clean and polish these areas as well as every other nook and cranny.
  3. There’s no way around constantly exposing your vehicle’s paint to potential damage. So, it’s a good thing that detailing restores and preserves the paint finish!
  4. Your car’s paint is under constant attack from acid rain, bird droppings, and harsh UV rays. Detailers usually apply wax or ceramic coating as a protective barrier that resists harmful elements, prevents oxidation, fading, and staining.
  5. As previously mentioned, improper washing techniques, dirty, and low-quality brushes can leave scratches and swirl marks. Professional detailers utilize the proper tools and methods to prevent damage caused by improper washing. Furthermore, they may apply a protective coat that prevents further damage.
  6. Outside of aesthetics, detailing services include odor elimination, fabric protection, and engine bay cleaning. These services can make your car stand out to buyers against similar listings. The immediate impression of a shiny exterior and spotless interior attracts buyers.
  7. Interior detailing treats the wear on fabrics, leather, and plastic to keep them in fantastic condition and prevent premature deterioration.
  8. Detailers can usually identify issues, such as chips, scratches, and fading paint, that could lead to larger problems down the line. Addressing these problems as early as possible saves you money and effort while maintaining your vehicle’s overall integrity.
  9. Detailing improves interior air quality. Thorough detailing cleanses the dust, pollen, and bacteria that accumulate in your upholstery, carpets, and vents. This process removes allergens that can cause respiratory issues, especially in individuals with sensitive reactions.
  10. Habitually detailing is an investment in the lifespan of your vehicle, preserving its materials and components.
  11. A clean, fresh interior enhances your driving experience. Detailers use specialized cleaning products to remove odor from food spills, pet hair, and smoke.
  12. Detailing considerably improves driving safety. Dirty windows and headlights can decrease visibility, especially at night and during adverse weather. To improve safety on the road, detailers thoroughly clean and polish the glass surface and lighting components. Proper tire maintenance prevents skidding and loss of control, which may cause accidents. Detailers clean and dress the tires, enhancing their appearance and improving grip and performance.
  13. Detailing isn’t just a luxury; it’s a cost-effective way to maintain your car’s condition. Addressing scratches and contaminants early prevents them from worsening into costly repairs. For example, minor rust spots should be treated now instead of later, as rust can damage your car over time, potentially requiring expensive bodywork. Furthermore, detailing retains the vehicle’s original look, reducing the need for paint restoration or interior refurbishment, which is especially convenient for classic or sentimental cars.

Don’t want to pay for detailing every month? Here’s the hack. Get a 3-year ceramic coating and wash your car with a hose or self-serve car wash bay power washer, the water and dirt will bead off. Then get an exterior detail as a maintenance wash every few months.

So, make detailing your car a habit, and start now. If you live in West Michigan, contact Garza Detailing at 616-836-7465 or fill out our form. Invest in the life and look of your automobile, and stay a proud owner for a long time!

The First Thing You Should Do When You Purchase A New Vehicle

The first thing you should do when you purchase a new vehicle
At Garza Detailing, we recently detailed a brand-new vehicle that was fresh from the dealership but had scratches. Unfortunately, this is a common phenomenon.

New vehicles are still vulnerable to scratches. Transport, highway travel, test driving, and in-dealership detailing commonly cause scratches or harm.

If you're planning on buying a car or just purchased one, don't fret, the solution is an excellent long-term investment called ceramic coating.

Sun Damage and Warranties

New cars are still vulnerable to UVA and UVB rays from the sun, which lead to oxidation, fading, and damage over time. A ceramic coating serves as a shield against sunny days.

While a dealership may offer ceramic coating for thousands of dollars, you would only be investing in a warranty, rather than a superior product or service. A detailer would typically take more care while applying ceramic coating and charge less.

What Exactly Does Ceramic Coating DO?

Ceramic coating is an advanced polymer solution for preserving a vehicle's paint and immaculate new look. As previously mentioned, ceramic coating shields against UV rays, chemical stains, environmental damage, tree sap, and bird droppings. Furthermore, it prevents your original paint from fading, oxidizing, and scratching!

Ceramic coatings have hydrophobic properties that make it easier to clean your car and allow for less regular washing and waxing. This means your car will continue to look fresh with minimal maintenance!

Similarly, you won't need as many professional cleanings, potentially saving you HUNDREDS of dollars a year. Now, consider when it comes time to sell your car: Your well-maintained exterior will increase its resale value!

At Garza Detailing in West Michigan, we don't just apply ceramic coating with time, care, and a climate-controlled environment. We also correct the damage done to your vehicle in transport, whether from cleaning, detailing, test drives, or just sitting on the lot. Our ceramic coating ranges from $600-$1500 packages depending on the size and condition of your vehicle, so make an economic investment in your car, and call us at 616-836-7465 or fill out our Detailing form immediately for a quote on a ceramic coating application.

We take the utmost caution and make sure you're satisfied!

Get an interior detail in the Winter for a safer drive

Get an interior detail for a safer winter drive
Do you ever wonder how to feel safer driving in Winter? It isn't all about exterior vehicle maintenance; the interior matters too. What you need is an interior detail.

A clean, clear driving space gives you the focus you need when braving the slippery season. Furthermore, interior details improve your well-being and boost your mood, which can be particularly helpful for seasonal depression.

Road Salt Messes Up Your Interior, Too.
Winter weather constantly attacks your car's interior, so you must pay special attention to it! You contaminate the interior surfaces when you inevitably track in road salt and chemicals. For example, when road salt dissolves in water, it creates a white residue that builds up on the carpets and floor mats.

Furthermore, salt stains and bright sunlight fade the seats. Also, odor gets trapped in the floors, carpets, and seat covers.

Seven Ways An Interior Detail Will Give You A Better Driving Experience
Since Winter adds so many hazardous conditions to your drives, an interior detail is necessary to improve your journeys. So, let's dive into how this is possible:
  1. Cleaning interior fabric removes allergens, thus improving the air quality, which is undoubtedly healthier than driving with the windows down in the cold!
  2. Tommy's Terrific Car Wash in Plano, TX states that your vehicle should provide "a sanctuary from the chaos of the outside world.” Do you want to step in your car and get hit with a rush of chaos and stress? Just like a cluttered space can clutter your mind, a clear space can CLEAR your mind.
  3. Oftentimes, the condition of your automobile sets the tone for your drive. So, removing odor and even adding calming fragrances will allow for relaxing adventures.
  4. Like many people see cars as an expression of their owners, many drivers see their vehicles as extensions of themselves. So, when you clean your interior, you may boost your senses of control, order, and confidence.
  5. If you plan on selling your car, detailing and maintaining it will increase its resale value and attract more potential buyers.
  6. Simply put, the act of cleaning itself has mood-boosting effects.
  7. Clean areas are less visually stimulating, which leads to enhanced focus, mental clarity, and safer driving. A study by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that drivers who take their eyes off the road for more than two seconds double their risk of a crash.

So, if you live in West Michigan, we've got you covered! Call Garza Detailing at 616-836-7465 or fill out our Detailing form for a quote. We offer exterior and interior details in a controlled climate.

As always, drive safe!

A Driver's Winter Survival Guide

A driver's winter survival guide
You're probably aware that Winter weather and road salt can wreak havoc on your vehicle. If you want it to last many more Winters, you must prepare before the season hits. A great place to start is reading this guide.

A Driver's Winter Survival Guide

These are the steps required to prepare your car for Winter:
  • Check your battery, and clean the terminals. Car batteries work much harder during Winter, significantly if the oil has thickened. You can use a computerized battery tester to test your battery, and if it's at the end of its rope, replace it. Then, clean the battery terminals and apply a protectant spray.
  • Top up with antifreeze. If you dilute coolant with water and the water freezes, your engine will overheat.
  • Do a pre-winter inspection. This includes checking the brakes, tire tread, pressure, lights, belts, wiper blades, and defroster and replacing your brake fluid.
  • Switch to Winter tires. According to Aceable, winter tires have a deeper tread that “allows for better traction in snowy, slushy, icy, and rainy conditions.” Switching your tires can prevent at-fault accidents.
  • Apply ceramic coating. Ceramic coating lasts 12+ months and works on exterior paint, wheels, glass, and interior surfaces. Furthermore, this hydrophobic surface shields against road salt, dirt, and UV rays. So, ceramic coating can protect your vehicle from rusting and corrosion.
  • Wash the entire car regularly. Clean everything, including the undercarriage, to remove salt particles. The undercarriage is especially vulnerable to corrosion and rusting.
  • Lubricate the window tracks. Freezing water can seep into the window tracks and create drag when you try to open the window. Then, that drag can damage the window regulator cables, costing hundreds of dollars.
  • Lubricate parts of your vehicle that could freeze up. It would be best if you lubed the weather stripping so you don't get frozen out of your car. Lubricate the latch mechanism to ensure that you can always open the hood. Lastly, lube the lock cylinders so they don't corrode and make it impossible to use your key.
  • Switch to Winter wiper blades. Do so for better visibility and to prevent streaking and ice from packing.
  • Check and replace your hood lifts. If they're difficult to move in Winter, replace them because they could stop working in freezing temperatures.
  • Keep a Winter survival kit in your automobile. Make sure to include:
    1. A flashlight
    2. A candle-powered heater
    3. A pencil and a notepad
    4. A cell phone charger
    5. A compact tire inflator
    6. A bag of cat litter or floor sweep absorbent (to regain traction on ice)
    7. A small tool kit (zip ties, screwdrivers, pliers, duct tape, and an adjustable wrench)
    8. A small shovel
    9. Jumper cables
    10. A first-aid kit
    11. A can of Fix-a-Flat
    12. Warm gloves, a hat, and a blanket
  • Check the condition of your coolant. Make sure you have enough coolant of good quality in your vehicle.
  • Do NOT use the car wash. The water can freeze your locks and door handles and corrode the surfaces. When we detail your vehicle in our heated studio, your car is completely dry before it is delivered back to you.
  • Make sure your tire pressure works for Winter. The ideal tire pressure is 30 to 35 PSI.
  • Consider getting a rust inspection. A professional will be able to tell you what essential repairs to get.

So, if you live in West Michigan, call Garza Detailing at 616-836-7465 or fill out our detailing form for a quote. We can detail your car and apply the ceramic coating for ultimate protection.

 Drive safely this Winter!

How To Increase the Market and Trade-In Value of Your Vehicle

how to increase the trade-in value of your car
Hey, everyone in West Michigan who is thinking about selling your vehicle, I've got a helpful secret for you! Most people know that the market value of your car decreases as soon as you drive it off the lot. Fortunately, if you regularly detail your car, you can increase its value when it's time to sell.

How Detailing Rejuvenates Your Automobile
Let's dive into how detailers can restore your vehicle to what it looked like when it was new:
  • Experts can choose the best paint protection products to deal with elements that cause fading, scratching, wear, and tear.
  • UV rays damage your upholstery, dashboard, and the entire trim, but detailers can address these issues.
  • Detailers can remove your interior odor by sweeping, shampooing, sanitizing, and conditioning. Garza Detailing even has an ozone machine!
  • We'll even detail the engine. A detailed engine works better and makes it easier for mechanics to identify problems. The process involves spraying a mist that removes dirt, wiping it down, and applying protective compounds to silicone, rubber, and plastic parts that could crack.
  • Regularly detailing your automobile preserves it because detailers remove abrasive debris from the exterior, such as bird droppings, artillery fungus, dirt, rust, iron, and grime.
  • Applying ceramic coating is another way that we protect exteriors from UV rays and contaminants. In fact, you can report your ceramic coating to CarFax to prove how much care you put into your car.
  • People typically overlook their undercarriage, but taking care of it is vital for the lifespan of your vehicle. You must remove corrosive debris from snow, mud, and salted roads that lead to rusting. Corrosion and rust compromises the vehicle's structural integrity and safety.

The Car Wash Just Won't Cut It.
Running your automobile through the car wash isn't going to raise its value. On the other hand, detailing experts know the best practices to remove scratches, marks, and blemishes. So, if you simply use the car wash before you sell your car, it won't stand out at all.

Besides, car washes typically scratch your vehicle over time and lower its value by thousands of dollars!

That “Brand New Look” Is As Important As A Quality Engine
When you detail your vehicle regularly, it appears to be brand new. Aside from aesthetics, demonstrating regular maintenance and care for your car speaks volumes to consumers.

According to Andy's Autowash, detailing can increase the market value of your car by up to 15%. Furthermore, Fort Worth Auto Detail states that you can pocket about $1400 after selling a detailed car.

Garza Detailing does interior, exterior, and engine detailing and ceramic coating on the West Michigan Lakeshore. So, call us at 616-836-7465 or fill out our Detailing form for a quote.

Show potential buyers that you took the best care of your automobile!

NEW RIDE? WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TRANSPORT WRAP

protective transport wrap
Surprisingly, most people don't know about the paint protective film on their new car. Once you remove the wrap, you'll look at a cleaner, more attractive vehicle.

The Cons of Protective Transport Wrap
Protective transport wrap, or paint protective film or polymask protective film, protects a car's exterior and interior during transport to the dealership. The purpose is to temporarily shield the new surface from moisture, scratches, and contamination.

Of course, polymask protective film isn't supposed to stay on your vehicle forever. It only lasts up to seven years. The wrap can start peeling and fading after only a year.
new car detail
Paint protective film will never look as clear or texture-free as exterior paint. The film can't wrap around every crevice of the paint, so some of the edges will show, and when you wash it, it can lift.

Dust and dirt accumulate quickly on protective transport wrap, and it's difficult to remove. Additionally, the wrap can get scratches, stains, scuffs, and abrasions that will stay on it permanently. Furthermore, car wash soaps can cause streaks and spots.

So, if you live in the West Michigan Lakeshore and you just got a new vehicle, call Garza Detailing at 616-836-7465 or fill out our Detailing form to receive a quote. We'll remove the protective paint film and polish the exterior, or better yet, start you out right with a Ceramic Coating, so your automobile will REALLY look brand new!

Your Window and Porch Screens Need Cleaning Too!

7/10/2024

why screens need to be cleaned
Are you looking to improve the air quality in your home? Make sure you clean your porch and window screens at least twice a year.

The Risks of Neglecting Your Porch and Window Screens
These are the issues you may face if you don't wash the screens:
  • The dirtier the screen, the shorter its lifespan.

  • Screens capture dirt, salt, sap, bio-matter, pollen, dust, webs, bird droppings, mold, and mildew. These substances will wear down the screens over time.

  • Studies show that when dirty air runs through your home, it can negatively impact the respiratory health of everyone living there.

  • Even with squeaky clean windows, your visibility won't be at its full potential if your screens are dirty.

  • When it rains, the windows become dirty. While many people think it's because the rain itself is dirty, the rain is really splattering the debris from the screens onto the windows.

The Benefits of Clean Screens
Once the screens are clean, you'll breathe better air, experience a quality breeze, and gaze at views with optimal visibility. Furthermore, you'll have peace of mind that you're saving your family, pets, and friends from sinus or severe respiratory problems.

You don't have to clean your screens yourself. Call Garza Detailing and Power Washing at 616-836-7465 or fill out our power washing form to request a quote! We service homeowners in West Michigan.

How Safe Is Your Car From Water Spot Damage?

6/24/2024

All you need to know about water spots on your vehicle

Does this sound like you? You keep trying to clean your car, whether it's through the car wash or by yourself, but the white water stains will not go away. Perhaps you even see visible damage to your paint.

In this article, we will go over how water spots form, the damage they cause, and the ideal way to get rid of them once and for all.

How Water Spots Form
Water spots are ringed white stains made of traces of salts, minerals, and acids dissolved in water. When water evaporates, it leaves behind the mineral deposits.

Water spots progressively damage automobiles. When you leave any type of water stain on your vehicle for too long, it will corrode the surface.
before and after water spot removal on a red SUV
Let's take a look at things that make the situation worse:
  • Don't clean your car with tap water. Tap water causes hard water spots to form. Hard water spots are cloudier, contain more sodium and magnesium ions, and are difficult to clean with soap.

Plus, when you clean your vehicle and leave it out in the sun, the tap water is sure to evaporate quickly and leave minerals behind.
  • When you leave your car out in the rain, bonded mineral spots and etched-in water spots form. Bonded mineral spots have a higher concentration of minerals, but etched-in water spots are the most severe forms of water spots, and old, worn cars are the most vulnerable to them.
  • When sprinklers spray your car, they leave hard water spots, which are more difficult to remove than rain water.
  • Please don't leave a wet, black vehicle in the sun! If you have ever wondered why water spots affect your black car so much worse, it's because black paint absorbs more heat, so the water evaporates much faster. The white spots contrast directly with the black paint.

Most detailers do their best to dry your vehicle off before water spots form, but we use pure, deionized (DI) water that won't cause stains in the first place. Bring your vehicle to us for and exterior detail and regular maintenance washes and keep those water spots at bay. Additionally, we offer ceramic coating services. Ceramic coating is hydrophobic, so water will bead on the surface and roll right off, preventing water spots from forming.

How Safe Is Your Deck From the Lakeshore Environment?

5/31/2024

West Michigan Lakeshore Deck Restoration
Every homeowner needs to pressure wash their deck annually, but it's crucial for people who live near big lakes and wooded areas. Your deck is especially vulnerable to structural damage in these areas. Not only that, but decks also get slippery and become a hazard when growth is unattended on them.

Algae and Water Damage

Decks on the Michigan Lakeshore are susceptible to erosion, water damage, and algae growth. Leaves, snow, and rain encourage algae growth. It collects in grooves and cracks; the moisture can lead to wood rot and structural damage.

Simply painting over the algae isn't enough. The living spores will continue to grow. On the other hand, a deck restoration can effectively remove algae, mold, moss, mildew, dirt, and grime.

Wood is especially susceptible to water damage, but stone and tile are porous, so they aren't safe. Water damage leads to swelling, and when the sun dries the material, it will crack. In time, cracks in wood fibers can lead to structural collapse.

Garza Detailing and Power Washing provides deck restoration services on the West Michigan Lakeshore. So, call us at 616-836-7465 or fill out our residential power washing form for a quote.

Extend the lifespan of your deck!
