How Safe Is Your Deck From the Lakeshore Environment?

5/31/2024

West Michigan Lakeshore Deck Restoration
Every homeowner needs to pressure wash their deck annually, but it's crucial for people who live near big lakes and wooded areas. Your deck is especially vulnerable to structural damage in these areas. Not only that, but decks also get slippery and become a hazard when growth is unattended on them.

Algae and Water Damage

Decks on the Michigan Lakeshore are susceptible to erosion, water damage, and algae growth. Leaves, snow, and rain encourage algae growth. It collects in grooves and cracks; the moisture can lead to wood rot and structural damage.

Simply painting over the algae isn't enough. The living spores will continue to grow. On the other hand, a deck restoration can effectively remove algae, mold, moss, mildew, dirt, and grime.

Wood is especially susceptible to water damage, but stone and tile are porous, so they aren't safe. Water damage leads to swelling, and when the sun dries the material, it will crack. In time, cracks in wood fibers can lead to structural collapse.

Garza Detailing and Power Washing provides deck restoration services on the West Michigan Lakeshore. So, call us at 616-836-7465 or fill out our residential power washing form for a quote.

Extend the lifespan of your deck!

benefits of having your vehicle detailed by Garza Detailing
Four Ways Garza Detailing Outshines Other Detailers
Here are four ways Garza Detailing sets itself apart from other detailers. With over 15 years of experience, Rolando Garza has successfully developed his business to include unique, convenient features for clients on the West Michigan Lakeshore year round.

Our Unique Services and Facility
Take a look at what Garza Detailing has to offer:
1. We invested in enough insurance to provide a complimentary pick-up and drop-off service for the types of vehicles found in our area.

2. Additionally, we invested in deionized (DI) water to remove water spots from vehicles and rinse them with the most pure water as possible.

3. We offer affordable maintenance washes after your first wax, polish, or ceramic coating of the season. That includes our pickup and dropoff service!

4. We have a facility that protects cars while we work on them. Furthermore, we can continue to house your automobile in our controlled environment after the service until the weather is ideal.

Take Advantage of These Benefits!
Your average detailer doesn't have DI water. The most critical times to use it to remove water stains are in Spring and Summer, the rainy and hot seasons.

Water stains form when water droplets evaporate and leave mineral deposits, like calcium and magnesium, behind. Sun, heat, and rain accelerate the formation process.

Call Garza Detailing at 616-836-7465 or fill out our Detailing Quote Form for a quote. Conveniently, you don't have to drive to and back from a detailing service. So, give your vehicle the treatment it deserves!

What You Ought To Know About Wheel Care

2/23/2024

why wheel care is necessary
Are you aware of how vital it is to maintain the wheels on your vehicle? Brake dust poses a massive threat to your wheels and, over time, the rest of your car. If you get an exterior detail with Garza Detailing, we'll remove the brake dust accumulating on your wheels.

The Dangers of Brake Dust
Brake dust is the residue of metal shavings and carbon fiber that rub off the brake pad and rotor. Most rims are made of a metallic alloy, making it easy for the dust to build up quickly. Brake dust corrodes wheels, which leads to rusting.

Rust quickly accumulates when you store your car in a moist environment. When wheel rust spreads, the metal becomes brittle and prone to cracking. Once it spreads to structural components, such as the chassis and suspension, your vehicle won't be safe to drive, and you'll lower its resale value.

Typically, wheel wells are the first to rust because they're constantly exposed to water, dirt, and grime flung from the vehicle. Unfortunately, the rusting is easy to overlook in a hidden spot, like the wheel well. You need your wheel well to function because it protects the other drivers on the road.

How Garza Detailing Will Protect Your Wheels
Detailing your wheels at least twice a year is an excellent way to maintain them. Garza Detailing will use iron decon to remove brake dust from the barrels, spokes, and other parts of your wheels. Additionally, we can use a ceramic coating to protect the wheels from cracking and rusting, prolonging their lifespan. You can't get as complete cleaning and protection like that in a drive-through car wash!

If you live in West Michigan, call Garza Detailing at 616-836-7465 or fill out our Detailing booking form for a quote. It's essential to maintain your wheels frequently to avoid severe damage.

Why Winter is the Perfect Time for Detailing

1/25/2024

Picture
We get it, winter isn't the time people think about getting their car detailed. However, we have a lot of compelling reasons why it's the perfect time, like protecting your paint and interior from road salt and grime. Not to mention mishaps like spills and buildup of pet hair still happen year-round, along with everything that the kids and pets drag in. Moisture from snow causes odor when it collects in the interior.
Picture
Why Garza Detailing Is The Right Choice for an Interior Detail
Garza Detailing isn't your run-of-the-mill detailer. Most detailers don't offer services in Winter because they're mobile. We have a local heated studio and operate year-round.

As previously mentioned, Winter interior details are necessary. Basic services include vacuuming, polishing, and mirror cleaning. Our interior services, however, are extremely thorough:
  1. First, we go through the vehicle, including between and under the seats, and toss trash that won't fit in the vacuum.
  2. Starting in the back of the car, we use compressed air and a Tornador to blow everything toward the front. We also use the Tornador on the seats to break up debris.
  3. Then, we're ready to vacuum the interior, including under the seats.
  4. To clean the headliners of any stains, we use a small amount of steam and chemicals.
  5. Depending on whether or not the floor mats are rubber or carpet, we will power wash or scrub them. Then, we hang them to dry.
  6. Next, we vacuum, steam, and, if necessary, perform extractions on the carpet.
  7. Then, the primary cleaning process begins. Starting at the cockpit, working on the dash down, we scrub with a ninja pad, a brush, steam, and chemicals. We clean the whole car, including the center console, armrests, cup holders, and door pockets.
  8. After that, we use air to remove moisture from the buttons, vents, and between the seats.
  9. Then, we wash the windows with a towel and chemicals. We use a second towel to remove the chemicals and a third to ensure all substances and streaks are gone.
  10. Finally, we put UV protection on all leather and plastic.

Winter Exterior Details are Vital
A common misconception is that you MUST wait for Spring for an exterior detail of your car. It isn't only possible to detail your vehicle in Winter; it's essential. Automobiles are vulnerable to snowy weather.

When roads get icy, they get salty. Unfortunately, road salt slowly eats away at paint, plastic, rubber, and metal. Furthermore, the more prolonged snow, ice, and road grime sit on your vehicle, the more potential for scratching, corrosion, and cracking. The remedy is washing, clay bar, buffing, and polishing or waxing. A Ceramic Coating will provide even more protection from this, 12 months worth!

To book your detail, call Garza Detailing at 616-836-7465 or fill out our Detailing form for a quote. We service the West Michigan Lakeshore from South Haven to Holland.

Protect you and yours by driving safely, and we’ll protect your vehicle!

How To Take Charge of Your Year With a Clean Slate

12/29/2023

new year auto detail
The secret to starting the year fresh is decluttering everything, even your car. Here are some tips on effective organization and the mental health benefits.

Go Through Your Environment and Your Technology.
Let's go through common areas that quickly become disorganized and how you may remedy these situations:

  • Kitchen counters. Put away rarely used appliances; wipe away the dust and the food crumbs. Now, make these actions routine so you can always enjoy the serenity of clear countertops.

  • Try the Pomodoro Technique. Every week, engage in a 25-minute session in which you declutter and do tasks you don't feel like doing. You can list the things you want to get done throughout the week.
Examples include:
  • Dusting off lampshades
  • Cleaning baseboards
  • Decluttering the linen closet
  • Polishing the windows
  • Purging your paper piles

  • Bathroom counters. Author Sandy Kreps states, “A clean bathroom is a welcome sanctuary to start and end the day.” So, organize it.
    • Hang up the towels.
    • Keep spare toilet paper handy.
    • Store frequently used cosmetics and toiletries in a basket.
    • Keep the counter clear with only hand soap by the sink.

  • Your wallet. Get rid of unused credit cards, store loyalty cards, and business cards. If possible, pay off and cancel those credit cards.

  • Your phone. Delete unused, unnecessary, and time-wasting apps. Sort the rest into folders.

  • Email folders. Your inbox isn't meant to hold a lot of storage.

  • Your fridge and freezers. Clean out all the expired food and condiments or what you don't eat. Then, fill your fridge with fresh food you know you'll eat. Create a weekly meal plan, and shop according to your plan and budget.

  • Your clothes. Turn all the hangers in your closet backward. After you wash each item you've worn, turn the hanger back around. At the end of each season, donate clothing that is hanging backward.

  • Your computer desktop. Put outdated files in the trash and the rest in a sorting folder.

  • Laundry. Start a habit of finishing your laundry loads. Remember that they aren't complete until they're put away!

  • Set up a “blessing box.” Place a decluttering box by the door or in a closet. Find objects to fill it with daily. When the box gets full, donate the items and start over.

Detail Your Vehicle
Decluttering and cleaning your car automobile can be overwhelming. However, it's mentally easier to drive when you have a clean car. Cleanliness reduces stress on and off the road. Disorganization elevates cortisol, the stress chemical.

A detailed vehicle ensures that you focus on your surroundings behind the wheel. It improves mental clarity and decision-making skills.

It is said that people rarely have a clean house and a clean car, we can help you start the new year fresh, letting you focus on the place you live, while we deep clean the environment you drive in!

If you're in West Michigan, call Garza Detailing at 616-836-7465 or fill out our quote form. Get all the benefits of a clean car without cleaning it yourself!

Happy New Year!

What They Don't Tell You About the Car Wash

11/9/2023

The dangers of a drive-through car wash
It's the time of year when the masses frequently drive through the car wash to get the road salt and grime off their vehicles. Unfortunately, there is an ugly truth to car washes. It's more effective to detail your vehicle and apply ceramic coating.

Ineffective Protection
When you drive through a car wash or use a public vacuum, you put your car at risk of all kinds of injuries and risk exposing yourself to several contaminants that can make you sick.

Think about the bristles that touch car after car. Covered in residue from the previous cars, sometimes they only make your vehicle dirtier. Who wants to pay for an ineffective service?

Furthermore, the bristles, water, and detergents rub the surfaces of your car. They will strip your wax away over time and create microabrasions. If the wax is new, the cleaning materials can go right through it and damage your paint.

When water quickly evaporates from your car, it leaves behind hard water stains, which are calcium and magnesium carbonates. They erode your clear coat and permanently damage your vehicle.

You're better off with a detail because hand washing incorporates detergents with higher quality than those of car washes. Furthermore, at Garza Detailing, we have invested in a deionized water system. A deionized water system is an arrangement of DI tanks and other components that are used to produce high-purity water, which means no water spots!
deionized water system at Garza Detailing
Damage, Oxidation, and Contamination
Drive-through car washes threaten all exterior surfaces on your car. They can misalign your steering system, rip off your mirrors, and crack your windshield.

Sometimes, water and aerosols can contaminate you and your car with legionella bacteria. Legionella can cause fatal infections.

The drive-through car wash neglects your interior. Public vacuums aren't the solution, though. You never know when the vacuums were last cleaned, and you don't know what they've been exposed to.

Public vacuums suck up dirt, dust, allergens, vomit, mud, poop, etc. Your car's interior is a breeding ground for harmful germs and bacteria.

No Rust and No Stick
A unique feature of ceramic coating is its hydrophobic properties. Dirt, snow, road salt, and chemicals like magnesium chloride are unlikely to stick to the surface.

Microscopic imperfections like scratches would usually welcome ice to crystallize and expand damage. Luckily, ceramic coating seals the spots.

Oxidation, or rust, occurs when metal reacts with oxygen and moisture. Since water beads and rolls off the ceramic coating, you don't have to worry about your car rusting.

If you live in West Michigan, call Garza Detailing at 616-836-7465 or fill out our contact form for a quote. We can detail your interior and exterior as well as apply ceramic coating. This Winter, avoid the damaging car wash and adequately protect your vehicle.

Drive safe!

The Hack to Prevent Winter-related Damage to Your Vehicle

10/10/2023

protect your vehicle for winter with ceramic coating
Winter is only a couple of months away when the paint on your automobile will become the most vulnerable. Fortunately, there's a hack that can protect your vehicle and protect it against corrosion and oxidation... ceramic coating.

Features of Ceramic Coating
Ceramic coating has hydrophobic properties, which means it repels water. Additionally, it fills microscopic imperfections in porous materials, like the paint on your vehicle.

It's also important to note that a paint job includes primer, paint coatings, and finish. So, there are usually three layers protecting the metal, but even so, this is not match to Michigan weather and road and vehicle debris. Ceramic coating is a thin layer of gloss that bonds to the paint and adds an extra, durable layer of protection.

Road Salt, Slush, and Rust? Not a Problem.
Winter threats to your car include snow, ice, slush, road salt, and oxidation.

Road salt and ice can easily scratch up an unprotected car, but the combination of the multi-layer system and the properties of ceramic coating make your paint and metal challenging to corrode. Even if debris touches your vehicle, it won't adhere. While you drive, air will naturally remove debris.

Rain, snow, and melting ice? No problem, with ceramic coating, it beads and rolls right off! The coating repels slush and all moisture. Oxidation isn't risky because humidity must get past all coating layers and react with bare metal.

The Best Shield for Your Vehicle
With ceramic coating, as long as you avoid drive-through car washes and bring your vehicle in for maintenance washes with Garza Detailing a few times this Winter, you can avoid scratches from road salt and other debris. Oxidation isn't a threat, and your car will stay clean for extended periods. Furthermore, using ceramic coating is a less costly way to shield your vehicle than vinyl wraps.

West Michigan winters can get nasty. Thanks to protective layers and hydrophobic properties, your paint can stay safe. So, if you'd like us to apply ceramic coating to your car, call Garza Detailing at 616-836-7465 or fill out our contact form for a quote.

All You Need To Know About Ceramic Coating

West Michigan Lakeshore Ceramic Coating
Garza Detailing is proud to announce that we offer ceramic coating! Walk away understanding what it is and how it provides extra protection and enhances the appearance of your vehicle.

What Is Ceramic Coating?
Ceramic coating is a semi-permanent clear coating that uses nanotechnology to provide protection and gloss enhancement. It can extend the durability of coatings or work as a stand-alone. The finish is hard, glassy, and depending on the color of your paint, even glows!

Bonding to your clear coat, ceramic coating repels dirt, dust, rain, and mud. When your automobile gets wet, water beads and rolls right off. Additionally, it serves as a UV protectant.

Less Scratching
Because ceramic coating repels contaminants, your car defends itself against scratches. Plus, the self-cleaning abilities require less frequent washing.

Save Money
With an extra defense barrier and water resistance, you'll save money on washing and detailing your vehicle in the long run.
Garza Detailing - West Michigan Lakeshore Ceramic Coating Process
The Process
Applying ceramic coating is a painstaking process by hand to give you optimum results. Before we even begin the application of the solution to every inch of the exterior, we must also:

  3. Iron Decon treatment
  4. Clay Bar entirety of the paint by hand
  5. Wash again
  6. Polish the entirety of the paint
  7. Panel prep
Then, we apply the ceramic coating. Once completed, it is best that your vehicle stay out of the elements for 24 hours. With a 6-stall detailing facility, we are happy to keep your vehicle overnight if you so choose.

The Top 5 Ways To Rid Rodents FROM Your VEHICLE

5 ways to get rid of rodents from your car
Did you take your sports car out of storage this Spring and find a surprise? Vehicle owners that live along West Michigan's lakeshore and farm country are finding out that rodents made a home in their cars last Winter. In these areas, infestations are inevitable, and you shouldn't be embarrassed.

However, you should know that it's essential to take care of the issue because inhaling rat urine and droppings is dangerous for your health. For example, they can carry the Hantavirus. So, we'll discuss how to repel rodents, how to take care of an infestation at home, what you should do before you drop your car off at a detailer, and how Garza Detailing and Power Washing will finish the job.

Rodent Prevention Tips
Measures of prevention are your best bet, but they aren't foolproof. Here are some ways to repel rodents:
  1. Common Sense: Keep food and wrappers out of your car! While this won’t stop these wiley creatures from wanting to build nests and gnaw on wires while it’s in storage, in or out of storage, you don’t want to leave an invitation.
  2. Old Fashioned: House a cat in your garage.
  3. Hillbilly Method: Grate some Irish Spring soap and put it around your vehicle and in the trunk. Mice don’t like the smell or the taste. If you ever had your mouth washed out  with soap, no explanation is necessary:)
  4. Most Recommended: Purchase a mouse blocker. Those little long tailed devils are repelled by the signal it omits. If you can't install it yourself, hire a mechanic.
  5. Boogee: Purchase a Mouse Blocker 1000X! It omits an ultrasonic sound that will blast rats away.

DIY Rodent Control
When you take your treasured vehicle out for a spin, unfortunately, you may find dead rodents, nesting, urine, and droppings.

If you're willing to DIY the cleanup, do not vacuum the droppings with your household vacuum cleaner, and immediately empty out your shop vac wearing appropriate protective gear, like a mask, gloves, and long sleeves. As we established, they could be contaminated with the Hantavirus.

First, air out the interior and engine compartment for at least 20 minutes. Then, take a commercially labeled disinfectant or a mixture of one part bleach and nine parts water to spray all over the contaminated areas. Let the disinfectant sit for five minutes.

Next, use a paper towel to pick up the waste. Then, respray the disinfectant.

Check the HVAC system because mice love to nest in there. If you find that you need to replace the air filter, repeat all of the steps above on the HVAC system.

OR, Instead, Do These Two Things Before You Take Your Car To a Detailer.
Most detailers like us are willing to work with rodent infestations, but before we do that, replace your cabin air filters and remove all visible nests.

What We Can Do
After you replace filters and remove nesting, we can do the further cleanup, extracting, and an interior deep clean. Please note that if your vents and air intake are infested, they must be opened up to be cleaned out. You may prefer to have your dealership do that if the process is complicated.

So, call Garza Detailing and Power Washing at 616-836-7465, or fill out our form so that we can clean up and help you breathe easy. Remember the preventative methods for next year when your car returns to storage!
